The Creative and Activist

Methodologies Toolkit

This toolkit presents a range of methods that were implemented and designed by artists, NGOs, and young people as part of the My Elections – My EU! project.

All methods were either used during or developed for the project’s activities – whether it involved debating migration in Lampedusa, formulating political demands related to climate change, or using artistic and creative tools to prepare a final creative-political performance in front of the European Parliament in Brussels.

The list of activities included in this toolkit ranges from more activism- and advocacy-oriented practices – such as how to formulate political demands or organise a street performance – to more creative and artistic approaches, including how to use theatre, dance, and circus to express one’s own ideas and emotions.

What we discovered during the project is that combining activism with creativity can be a powerful catalyst for social and political change.

We therefore encourage you to combine creative and activist/advocacy methods – together, they can make both approaches stronger and more impactful.

Who Can Use It?

This toolkit is designed to support youth workers and young people working in activist or creative spaces, as well as those who are simply curious about how the two approaches can complement each other.

However, it can also be used by anyone interested in bringing creativity and activism into their work or free-time activities: youth workers, NGOs, teachers, trainers, artists, etc.
